Survodutide (BI 456906) is an investigational, long-acting, once-weekly injectable drug jointly developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and Zealand Pharma. It acts as a dual agonist of glucagon and GLP-1 receptors and is intended for the treatment of obesity, overweight, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASH). Its mechanism of action involves activating metabolic pathways to reduce weight and control blood sugar. Clinical trials have shown significant weight loss effects (up to 18.7% in Phase II studies), and it has received Fast Track and Breakthrough Therapy designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of MASH. The drug is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials.
